Growing Rules and bylaws
1. Application Process
-
All interested individuals must apply through this official website.
-
Garden plots are limited and will be allocated based on application review.
-
There is no participation fee, but each grower is required to donate one-third (1/3) of their total harvest to Mama K to support community food programs.
2. Land Use & Respect for Donation
-
The garden section is generously donated by a private landowner specifically for Mama K’s use in 2025.
-
The land is cleared and demarcated, ready for planting. You just have to make your own raised bed for your growing area, plant, water and wait for the great harvest day.
-
This donation is conditional on strict respect for the boundaries and rules. Any misuse may result in the cancellation of this opportunity for Mama K and others in the future.
-
Participants must not enter or interfere with other parts of the private farm, including livestock and non-garden areas, without explicit written permission from Mama K.
-
Each gardener to limit their gardening activities only to their growing bed(s). Visit to other beds is encouraged to be done alongside the owners of the specific gardener to prevent unknowingly destroying another person’s crop. Its encouraged to observe how plants are growing and ask specific question directly to the owner of the beds to learn and share ideas. There are large walking areas within the garden.
3. Access & Supplies
-
Gardeners must bring their own seeds, tools, and supplies. However, there are some tools available to be shared but are limited so brining your own will ensure you won't have to wait for someone to finish first.
-
Water will be supplied. Please don't waste the water as we need to purchase water from a local supply company. You would have to bring a bucket and a watering can for watering your plants.
-
Access to the farm is only permitted during official hours, which will be communicated to accepted participants.
-
Unscheduled visits and unauthorized access are strictly prohibited.
4. Code of Conduct
Participants agree to the following conduct expectations:
-
Respect all posted and verbal instructions given by Mama K staff.
-
No feeding animals or entering animal zones.
-
Children must remain supervised at all times and within the gardening area only.
-
No littering or leaving tools behind; all spaces must be kept clean.
-
Observe parking rules and use designated areas.
-
No disruptive behavior or violations of safety protocols.
5. Harvest & Donation Requirement
-
Each gardener must donate one-third (1/3) of their total harvest to Mama K. Mama K will then give all the donations received to other community organisations and individuals who may need them as part of our food sharing program. You are encouraged to submit names of such organisations that may benefit from this act of kindness. Thank you in advance for your donations.
-
Mama K will organize collection days and coordinate logistics for donations.
6. Waiver of Liability
-
Participants agree that Mama K Ethnic Food Processing Centre, its staff, volunteers, and the private landowners are not liable for any injury, damage, loss, or claim that may occur during participation.
-
Participants waive all legal claims and assume full personal responsibility during their time on the farm.
-
Mama K reserves the right to remove any participant without notice if they breach the bylaws or endanger the continuation of the program.
7. Contact & Privacy
-
Participants consent to be contacted by Mama K staff in accordance with Canadian privacy laws.
-
Communications will relate to the garden program and any relevant updates.
